CHAPTER 4:

Nali'bali launches its supplement in two additional indigenous languages

In 2018, we launched our supplement in both Setswana and Xitsonga. We now offer our supplement in 8 of 11 South African languages. The addition of these new languages has enabled us to:

Offer our supplement in 8 of the 11 official South African languages.

Increase interest and website traffic in the North West and Mpumalanga provinces.

Support the Lesedi-Letsatsi programme in the Northern Cape and Free State, where Setswana is the mother tongue of many people in these communities.

Expand into Mpumalanga and reach more people in Limpopo, with the addition of Xitsonga.

0

Xitsonga supplements distributed in 2018

Together this made up 3% of all distributed supplements, 5.5% of which were distributed directly to reading clubs (excluding the USAID project).

Additional languages we hope to tell our stories in

With our growing presence in Mpumalanga, we hope to add Siswati by 2020, funds permitting.

In 2019 we intend to focus on repackaging and distributing existing materials to make them more readable and accessible. This will continue to serve the Tshivenda, isiNdebele and Siswati-speaking audiences (the three non-supplement languages) via stories on radio and online.
